Pierre Engvall scored the first goal of a new season and Brian Pinho converted on a shorthanded rush Saturday night, but the Bridgeport Islanders fell to the Providence Bruins in a 3-2 final on Opening Night at Total Mortgage Arena.

Jakub Skarek was terrific and stopped 35 of 37 shots on Sunday afternoon, but former teammate Ken Appleby turned aside all 21 he faced as the Bridgeport Islanders suffered a 2-0 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Total Mortgage Arena.

Matt Maggio and Liam Foudy each collected three points and fellow linemate Fredrik Karlstrom scored two goals, but the Bridgeport Islanders suffered a 5-4 overtime loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack at XL Center on Saturday.

Jakub Skarek made 24 saves for his fifth career American Hockey League shutout on Sunday, backstopping the Bridgeport Islanders to a 4-0 win against the Hartford Wolf Pack at Total Mortgage Arena.
