Islanders To Play Thunderbirds in Home Opener

Jul 21, 2021

The Bridgeport Islanders will begin the home portion of their 2021-22 schedule on Saturday, Oct. 23rd at 7 p.m. against the Springfield Thunderbirds inside Webster Bank Arena.

Individual game tickets will be available later this summer, but group tickets, flex plans and full season ticket memberships are on sale now.

Bridgeport faced Springfield 11 times during the 2019-20 regular season, going 5-5-1-0 against its Atlantic Division rival. The Thunderbirds, who are now affiliated with the St. Louis Blues, were one of three AHL teams that opted out of the condensed 2020-21 season.

The two teams last played on Feb. 28, 2020 when Bridgeport earned a 6-3 victory at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. New York Islanders forwards Kieffer Bellows (two goals) and Oliver Wahlstrom (game-winning goal) each made a giant impact that night.

Bellows also recorded his first professional hat trick against Springfield in their most recent game at Webster Bank Arena on Dec. 28, 2019.

The American Hockey League intends to unveil the full regular-season schedule for all of its member clubs this Friday, July 23.
