While the Bridgeport Islanders returned to the ice for practice on Tuesday morning, many of their significant others were also put to work, volunteering with Connecticut Foodshare in Bridgeport.

They spent more than three hours organizing food items and creating meal packages for local senior citizens ahead of Thanksgiving.

“We decided to volunteer this morning because we wanted to give others something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, and make this week a little bit brighter,” Maddy Keech said (second from left).

“I hope the work we’ve done can make the holiday season a little less stressful for even one person, the holidays should be spent enjoying and spending time with the ones you love,” Brooke Kudirka added (far left).

“Every Thanksgiving, I grew up with both sides of my family in town, so we would spend the morning with my mom’s side and after dinner we would go to my dad’s side and play board games, or Pictionary, and it was always a lot of fun,” Kudirka said. “Many people aren’t as fortunate, and this is something small we can do to help out.”

The Islanders and Connecticut Foodshare are proud to partner again this season. Connecticut Foodshare was the beneficiary of the Chuck-A-Puck initiative and 50/50 raffle on Friday, Nov. 10th as the ‘Nonprofit of the Night’ organization.
