Sound Tigers Thank Veterans Prior to Holiday

Nov 7, 2019

The Sound Tigers made a meaningful stop prior to its weekend slate of games, which includes a Veteran’s Day matchup in Providence on Monday.

Christopher Gibson, Travis St. Denis and captain Kyle Burroughs traveled to the VA Connecticut Healthcare System veteran’s hospital in West Haven on Thursday to visit with local heroes. It was an idea they had to acknowledge their sacrifices, praise their efforts, and to say thank you.

“It really puts things into perspective and it’s something small that we can do to show our appreciation,” Burroughs said.

The hard-nosed, tough as nails defenseman summed it up perfectly.

“People call us warriors sometimes. That’s not true at all. These are the real warriors.”

The Sound Tigers signed autographs and took pictures with the veterans, military personnel and medical staff prior Monday’s holiday. In addition, they handed out sticks, t-shirts, blankets and tickets to upcoming games.

“It really drives home the understanding of what service and selflessness is,” Gibson said. “To every service man and woman out there, thank you.”

More smiles from the afternoon.
