Eklund’s Debut Lifts Islanders to Win Over Rocket

Bridgeport, Conn. – Squaring off against the Laval Rocket for a pivotal non-divisional showdown, the Bridgeport Islanders forced overtime with a goal late into the third period before Victor Eklund completed the comeback with the lone shootout goal in his North American debut as Bridgeport escaped with a 3-2 victory. Full Story…

Winning Streak Snapped Against Providence

Providence, RI—Coming into the Saturday night, the Bridgeport Islanders looked to win their fifth game in a row but they had to do it against the top team in the AHL, the Providence Bruins. Providence, winners of their last three games, clinched a playoff spot. The Islanders were determined to move even closer to doing the same if they could find a victory on the road. Despite going up by a pair of goals in the opening period, Providence pushed to come back and take the game by a 6-4 score.  Full Story…

 

Roster Notes:

  • Adam Beckman has accumulated 12 points in his last 12 games (7G, 5A) while Liam Foudy has nine points in his last nine games (5G, 4A)
  • Beckman recorded his 100th AHL goal on Friday night against Laval
  • Henrik Tikkanen has six wins in his last seven games
  • After defeating Laval, Bridgeport will not face any opponent for the remainder of the regular season outside the Atlantic Division
  • Matt Luff’s two assists against Providence on Saturday marked the second time he has recorded a multi-point night as a Islander since being acquired by trade from Springfield. Luff recorded the primary assist on the first professional goal of forward Cole Eiserman who joined the team earlier last week. 
  • Forward Victor Eklund registered his first point of the season on Matthew Highmore’s goal in Providence on Saturday 
  • Bridgeport signed goaltender Josh Kotai to an Amateur Tryout contract at the competition of his NCAA season with Augustana. 
  • Eetu Liukas remains week to week with an upper body injury
