Islanders Prevail in 3-2 Comeback Shootout Victory Against Thunderbirds
Springfield, MA – In a rematch from yesterday afternoon in Bridgeport, the Islanders were looking for redemption after dropping a home game against the Atlantic Division foes, the Springfield Thunderbirds. Just as the previous night, the game entered the final period all tied up but this time they needed a shootout to decide the winner, and it was the Islanders who came up victorious in the 3-2 decision. Islanders Lose 6-3 to Thunderbirds Despite Strong First Period
Bridgeport, CT – Playing in front of their home crowd for the first time in 13 days, the Bridgeport Islanders took the ice against the Springfield Thunderbirds looking to record two points against their Atlantic Division rival. Despite scoring three goals in the game’s opening eight minutes, the Islanders fell to the Thunderbirds, 6-3, in the first game of their home-and-home series. Full Story…
Roster Notes:
- Matthew Highmore (4G, 10A) and Matthew Maggio (3G, 11A) are tied for the team lead in scoring with 14 points in 19 games this season
- Highmore is currently on a five-game point streak (2G, 3A)
- Goaltender Henrik Tikkanen’s last AHL victory before Saturday night in Springfield was on March 22nd also against the Thunderbirds in a 4-1 decision at home.
- Joey Larson currently leads the team with eight goals and a +6 in 19 games played.
- Defenseman Sean Day recorded his first multi-point game on Saturday in Springfield with two assists including an assist on the late tying goal by Luke Rowe in the third period.
- Luke Rowe registered his first goal as a Bridgeport Islander in the third period on Saturday night in Springfield. The previous night he tallied two assists for his first multi-point game of the season.
- Only three of the teams next 10 games will be played at home inside Total Mortgage Arena. The team will play in Utica, Laval, Belleville, Lehigh Valley, Hershey, Springfield and Hartford during the month of December.
- Isaiah George has resumed skating and remains day-to-day
